The seventh generation was kicked of by Sega who launched their Dreamcast to rival Sony’s playstation, unfortunately for Sega playstation had already built up a large and loyal fan base and the dreamcast's gimmicky online play and tamogotchi type memory cards where over looked due to rumours of a playstation 2 and a console built by Microsoft, which resulted in the fall of Sega who are now only third party developers for the other consoles. The playstation 2 was released but with bugs in the first few batches, it was also the first console with USP ports for accessories like cameras and keyboards. A few months after the released of the playstation Microsoft entered the market with their Xbox witch boasted direct online play, unlike the playstation which players had o buy the hardware separate, and a 8gig hard drive witch allowed gamers to down load new levels and characters in to there game. Another console around at this time was Nintendo’s ill-fated Gamecube which gained a console for kids image buy releasing to many cartoon style games like louigi's mansion and mansion sunshine, unlike Sony and Microsoft who were releasing games that were aimed a teens and people in there twenties
My favourite game on the Xbox has to be Halo, this game has the most replay value than any other game I have played, the single player only gets boring after you have completed it several times on the harder difficulties, it also looks amazing with huge explosions, sparks that light up the surroundings and all kinds of alien foe, who have some of the best AI that I have seen on a console, with smaller “grunts” running for cover behind the larger more powerful “elites” after you have wiped out there friends with all kinds of weaponry. Halo also has a plot worthy of a film with the fearless master chief ridding the massive levels ranging from snow covered valleys to sprawling grassy plains of the covenant only to find that there only half the threat .By all rules of gaming the multiplayer on this game should be rubbish with limited weapons unchangeable characters no bots and only a handful of good maps but its not it’s the best multiplayer experience you can have with countless modes of play, especially played over to Xboxes via a system link.
Another great game was Grand Theft Auto 3 on the Playstation 2, after playing the other two games I bought this game with great expectations, you see your self playing as and unnamed criminal thrust in to the dark and atmospheric world of the Italian mob and other various rival gangs of the huge liberty city with a bustling community of people, your tasks range from assassinations, stealing cars and a whole host of other tasks while mindlessly running down the odd civilian or practising with a sniper rifle from a roof on passers-by
